The first suitcase struck the camera so hard that the picture tilted sideways.
Sienna barely had time to raise her head before another bag rushed past her face. The conveyor was carrying her deeper beneath the airport, toward a maze of steel tunnels and industrial machinery. Several feet ahead, the scratched black suitcase continued moving through the darkness.

Two men jumped onto the belt behind her.
They weren’t trying to rob her. They were trying to make sure the suitcase reached the end without her.
Sienna fought while the floor moved beneath her. She drove one attacker into a metal support, crossed onto a second conveyor and threw the other among a pile of luggage. Then the warning alarm began.
The black suitcase was heading directly toward an industrial crusher.
Sienna ran. She caught its handle seconds before the hydraulic plates closed, but the moving belt continued dragging both of them forward. Her fingers found the emergency lever on the second attempt.
The conveyor stopped inches from the machine.
Inside the suitcase were twenty passport-style documents from countries across the world.
Every one contained Sienna’s photograph.
The names were different. So were the nationalities, birth dates and travel histories. According to one document, she had crossed a European border while she was working a case in Chicago. Another placed her near an assassination in South America.
The final document was worse.
It claimed a woman wearing Sienna’s face would enter the United States the following morning.
Sienna scanned its electronic chip. Hidden beneath the ordinary travel data was an encrypted file called MIRROR LINE. It contained facial measurements, voice samples, security-camera recordings and years of information about her movements.
Someone hadn’t merely stolen her photograph. They had constructed an entire network of false identities around her face.
A flight number appeared on the screen. The flight was not arriving tomorrow.
It would land in forty-three minutes.
Sienna reached the international terminal as the passengers entered the arrivals hall. Then she saw her.
A woman with Sienna’s face walked calmly through customs.
The resemblance was perfect from a distance, but the stranger’s movements were wrong. She carried her left shoulder slightly lower and never touched the cross necklace around her neck.
Sienna followed her into a restricted corridor and blocked the exit.
The stranger smiled.
“You were supposed to be inside the crusher,” she said.
When Sienna grabbed her, part of the woman’s cheek shifted beneath her fingers. It was an advanced prosthetic mask built from scans of Sienna’s face.
The stranger fought with the precision of a trained operative, but Sienna forced her against the wall and removed the mask. Beneath it was a woman she had never seen before.
Inside her phone was a list of nineteen active identities. Each had been used near a crime connected to one of Sienna’s investigations.
At the bottom of the list was a twentieth entry:
SIENNA WILLIAMS — ORIGINAL — TERMINATION PENDING.

The woman finally revealed the plan. At midnight, the false passport would activate inside federal systems. The real Sienna would be marked as an identity thief, while the impostor would legally become her.
“Who created Mirror Line?” Sienna demanded.
The woman looked toward the security camera above them.
“Someone with access to everything the FBI knows about you.”
Sienna checked the final encrypted file. It contained a live security feed from inside FBI headquarters.
A person wearing her face had already entered the evidence room.
And around that person’s neck was Sienna’s missing FBI badge.
