What Was Inside Sienna’s Purse Was Keeping a Kidnapped Girl Alive
Sienna pressed the recovered handbag against her chest.
“Thank God he didn’t see what’s inside.”
Beneath its false lining were ransom envelopes, a tracker and an inhaler labeled for eight-year-old Ava Morgan.
Ava had been kidnapped thirty-six hours earlier. She had severe asthma, and her captors knew she could not last much longer without medication. They demanded that a woman deliver the ransom alone in an ordinary handbag. Sienna volunteered.
The bearded thief had not chosen her randomly.
During the struggle, he dropped a phone. Its screen displayed a message sent seconds before the theft:
“STOP THE DROP. MOVE THE GIRL.”
Sienna had less than twenty minutes.
She left the handbag beneath a bench at the pedestrian bridge named in the instructions. A man collected it and entered a delivery van. The tracker sewn into one envelope led Sienna to an abandoned industrial laundry.
She called for backup, but then heard a child coughing inside.
Sienna entered through a side door, disabled the driver and forced a second captor away from a locked office. Behind the door, Ava was struggling to breathe.
Sienna pulled the inhaler from the bag and placed it into the girl’s trembling hands. Within moments, Ava’s breathing steadied.
Police surrounded the building minutes later. The kidnappers were arrested, and Ava was reunited with her mother.
But the thief’s phone contained Sienna’s photograph, her walking route and the classified time of the exchange. That information had been sent less than ten minutes before the attack.
Only four people inside the Bureau knew those details.
As paramedics examined Ava, the girl whispered something else.
“The woman on the phone knew your name. She said you would choose me over the money.”
A final message appeared on the thief’s phone:
“AGENT WILLIAMS TOOK THE BAIT.”
Sienna looked at Ava, then at the officers entering the building. She had saved the girl—but someone inside her own agency had used a child to lead Sienna exactly where they wanted her.
